Bidet Installation — Licensed Plumbing with Backflow Protection
Delex Plumbing installs bidet seats and standalone bidets throughout Mississauga. Ontario Building Code requires a licensed plumber for bidet water supply connections — backflow protection is mandatory and included on every installation.
Why Bidet Installation Requires a Licensed Plumber in Ontario
Ontario Building Code requires a licensed plumber for all water supply connections to bathroom fixtures, including bidet installations. This is not merely a formality — it is a cross-connection control requirement. A bidet that is improperly connected to the household water supply without an approved backflow prevention device creates a cross-connection hazard: contaminated water from the bidet nozzle can be siphoned back into the drinking water supply during a drop in municipal supply pressure.
The risk is not theoretical. Peel Region’s cross-connection control program specifically identifies bidets as a potential cross-connection hazard requiring appropriate backflow protection at the point of connection. We install the correct backflow prevention device — either an integrated check valve (present in most modern bidet seat models) or an external vacuum breaker — as a standard component of every bidet installation.
Homeowners who have attempted DIY bidet seat installations without appropriate backflow protection may have a non-compliant connection. If your bidet seat was connected using only a T-valve without a backflow device, we can assess the connection and add appropriate protection without reinstalling the entire unit.
Cross-connection control inspections by Peel Region compliance officers do occur for commercial properties and may be triggered for residential properties where plumbing work has been done without permits. A bidet installation that does not meet backflow protection requirements may result in a compliance notice requiring correction. We complete all bidet installations to current Peel Region cross-connection control standards and can provide documentation of the installed backflow protection if required.
Bidet Seat Installation (Toilet-Mounted)
Bidet seats (also called washlet seats) mount on an existing toilet and replace the standard toilet seat. They require a cold water connection from the toilet supply line and, for heated water models, a dedicated 15-amp electrical outlet within reach of the toilet location. We handle the plumbing connection — a T-valve at the existing toilet shut-off valve, a new supply line from the T-valve to the bidet seat, and confirmation of backflow protection — while the electrical connection is handled by a licensed electrician if an outlet is not already present.
Installation of a bidet seat involves: turning off the toilet supply, installing the T-valve at the toilet shut-off, connecting the short supply hose from the T-valve to the bidet seat inlet, mounting the bidet seat bracket on the toilet rim, seating the bidet unit onto the bracket, and turning supply on to confirm no leaks at any connection point. The full installation typically takes 45 to 60 minutes.
For bidet seats that include a hot water connection (separate from electrical heating), a dedicated hot water supply line must be run from the nearest hot supply valve — typically the bathroom sink hot angle stop — to the bidet seat location. This requires additional supply line routing under the vanity and along the floor or inside the wall.
Bidet seat supply lines must be rated for toilet and bidet use — not all flexible supply lines sold in hardware stores meet the pressure and material requirements for bidet connections. We use braided stainless supply lines rated for continuous water service with the specific T-valve and bidet inlet configuration required by the unit manufacturer. The supply connection is pressure-tested before the installation is considered complete.
Standalone Bidet Installation
Standalone bidets are floor-mounted fixtures separate from the toilet, requiring their own drain connection, hot and cold supply connections, and floor mounting. Installation follows the same rough-in process as a toilet — drain connection to the existing branch drain, supply connections from dedicated shut-off valves, and floor mounting to the finished floor surface.
Standalone bidet rough-in is most efficiently done during a bathroom renovation when the floor is open and the drain and supply rough-in can be positioned correctly for the specific bidet model. Retrofitting a standalone bidet into an existing bathroom requires core-drilling the floor for the new drain connection and running new supply lines from the existing bathroom supply, typically through the wall cavity.
We obtain the required plumbing permit for standalone bidet installations that require new drain or supply rough-in, coordinate the City of Mississauga rough-in inspection, and ensure the drain connection meets current Ontario Building Code requirements for trap configuration, vent connection, and slope.
Standalone bidet models that are paired with matching toilet designs — such as Duravit, Kohler, and TOTO floor-standing bidet collections — require precise drain rough-in positioning to ensure the bidet drain outlet aligns with the floor drain connection. We verify the manufacturer’s rough-in specification against the actual floor layout before any concrete coring or subfloor modification is performed, and confirm the alignment after the rough-in is set before the inspection is booked.
Integrated Toilet-Bidet Installation
Integrated toilet-bidet units — one-piece toilets with built-in bidet seat and controls — are an increasingly popular choice in Mississauga bathroom renovations. Toto Washlet+ and similar integrated units combine a toilet and bidet seat in a single fixture with a unified design and a single installation footprint. They require the same connections as a standard toilet (drain, supply, and mounting) plus an electrical connection for the bidet seat electronics.
Integrated unit installation follows the same process as standard toilet replacement: remove the existing toilet, inspect and repair the toilet flange if required, install the new wax ring, set the unit, connect the supply, and confirm the bidet seat functions correctly before completing the job. For models with a remote control panel, we confirm the remote pairs correctly with the seat unit before leaving.
The primary advantage of an integrated toilet-bidet over a bidet seat add-on is aesthetic — no gap between the toilet and bidet seat, a unified rim profile, and a cleaner skirted base that is easier to clean around. The primary consideration is that replacing a failed seat component requires sourcing manufacturer-specific parts, whereas a bidet seat add-on can be replaced independently of the toilet.
Water pressure requirements for integrated toilet-bidet units vary by manufacturer. Most units require a minimum supply pressure of 30 PSI at the toilet supply valve for adequate bidet nozzle performance. We test supply pressure during the service call and advise if a pressure booster is required before the unit is installed — installing a bidet unit on inadequate supply pressure results in poor bidet performance and customer dissatisfaction that is difficult to correct after installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does bidet installation cost in Mississauga?
A: Bidet seat installation (T-valve supply connection, supply line, and backflow device) costs $150 to $300 for the plumbing portion. Standalone bidet rough-in and installation costs $400 to $800 depending on whether new drain or supply rough-in is required. Integrated toilet-bidet installation costs $350 to $600 for the plumbing (unit cost is separate). Call 416-910-2550 for a free estimate.
Q: Can I install a bidet seat myself in Ontario?
A: The bidet seat itself mounts to the toilet without licensed trades. However, the water supply connection — the T-valve at the toilet shut-off, the supply line, and the backflow device — requires a licensed plumber under Ontario Building Code. Peel Region’s cross-connection control regulations also specify that bidet connections must include appropriate backflow protection. We handle the plumbing connection component.
Q: Do bidet seats require electricity in Canada?
A: Most bidet seats with heated water, air drying, and remote control functions require a 120V 15-amp GFCI-protected outlet within 1.2 metres of the toilet. Cold-water-only bidet seats (basic spray function only) do not require electricity. If your bathroom does not have an outlet near the toilet, a licensed electrician can add one — we can recommend an electrician we coordinate with regularly.
Q: What is a T-valve and why is it needed for a bidet?
A: A T-valve (or three-way stop valve) replaces the existing toilet shut-off valve and creates two outlet connections from the same supply line — one for the toilet fill valve and one for the bidet seat. It is the supply connection point for the bidet seat. An approved T-valve with integrated check valve provides the backflow protection required by Peel Region’s cross-connection control program.
